Welcome to the 2019/20 SFSC Skating Season

I hope that everyone had a wonderful summer and that all our skaters are ready for another season.

Here are a few important items to make your experience the best it can be.

The calendar for the year has been posted on our website:

Things may change from time-time, but we will email you to let you know, and re-post updates to the website as they may occur.

First Day of Skating

First day of skating for 2018 - 2019 season is Monday Sept 9, 2019.

Please ensure that we have the correct up-to-date contact information for your family as important announcements are only sent via email to the address you have on file.

Figure Skating Room

The main doors to the figure skating room are kept locked and can be unlocked via the pin pad. Please remind skaters that this code should not be given out to anyone.

We are pleased that our club can offer our members access to our skater's dressing room!  As we have many skaters coming right from school they need to get changed before starting their session. For the safety and privacy of our skaters, we would like to remind all members that the dressing room is a Parent Free Zone.  We understand if some moms need to run into the room for a minute to speed up the process, but dads may not enter the locker room. We ask that if your skater requires assistance, they bring their skates out into the hallway or one of the dressing rooms offered by the Park

Skaters are expected to keep their space of the dressing room clean. At the end of each sessions all belongings should be put away in your locker or hung up on a hook. If you are eating in the skater’s room please make sure that all garbage is disposed of and if food is dropped on the floor please take the time to clean it up. Food attracts rodents, so please keep the room clean and tidy. Also, a friendly reminder that the locker room is a nut free environment as we have several skaters who have nut allergies. Please discuss this with your skater so that they understand their responsibility in keeping the room tidy.

If you are registered to skate 3 times or more a week or if you take the bus to the arena after school, please choose a locker and place your name on the front of it by Tuesday Sept 10, 2019.  We would like to offer lockers to all our Starskaters but unfortunately due to the limited lockers that we have available, we are unable to accommodate everyone. At the end of the first week we will have an idea of how many extra lockers will be available, so if you are interested in a locker please contact Stacey Will@ by Friday, Sept. 13, 2018 and please state how many days you are registered to skate with SFSC.

Volunteer Commitment

The required volunteer hours for Springbank FSC are 12 hours for the 2019/2020 season and are required from all StarSkate members who skate one hour or more per week. Throughout the year it will be each family’s responsibility to keep track of their volunteer hours with the Volunteer Coordinator. Families who do not fulfill the volunteer requirements throughout the regular skating season will have a $350 charge added to their latest invoice on file with SFSC, which will be automatically charged to the credit card on file for that payment, unless there are extenuating circumstances that have been previously approved by the SFSC Executive. You will be notified before any amount is charged.

Online Attendance

This season the coaches will be responsible for playing music. We will still require attendance to be taken as it is important to make sure that everyone is skating on the correct sessions and to help capture drop ins. Maria Corrales and Debbie Robillard attendance coordinators for this season.   Parents for every 4 sessions that you sign up to take online attendance you will be credited with 1 hour of volunteer time.

We understand drop-in option is sometimes easier for families. If you wish for your skater to drop-in, you will be required to e-mail your request to 24 hours before the session you wish to skate on. You will receive a response letting you know if we are able to accommodate your request. If your skater is able to drop in on the requested session an invoice will be posted to your account and this will need to be paid before entering the ice. Drop-in fee is $15/hour for members and $20/hour for non-members. We will be offering drop in passes this year that you can purchase online.

Skating Etiquette

Take the time to chat with your skater about skating etiquette. Skaters are expected to keep their head up and be aware of other skaters at all times. Ice awareness is very important in this sport as safety is a number one priority. Jump areas are from the blue lines to the end of the rink and in the corners. Please respect the jump area and clear it as quickly as you can. Spins are to be done in the middle of the ice only unless you are doing your program. Right of way should always be given to the skater who is performing their program. We need to remember that all skaters need to practice their skills, programs so it is important to be courteous, kind and supportive to your fellow skater.

On behalf of the club, we are looking forward to a great skating season and we are happy to have you as a part of our community.

Happy Skating,
