CanSkate is Canada's number one Learn to Skate program and has taught millions of Canadians to reach their recreational and competitive goals on the ice.. Skate Canada has developed a new CanSkate program
Based on Sport Canada’s long term athlete development (LTAD) principles, CanSkate includes specific skills that pertain to recreational, hockey, ringette, speed skating and figure skating. The result is a dynamic program that prepares all skaters for virtually every ice sport.
CanSkate is comprised of a complete series of balance, control and agility skills taught in six stages of learning. The program uses nationally-tested and proven curriculum and delivery methods that guarantee skater success in developing stronger basic skills and developing them faster.
Skate Canada is also proud to have all its programs taught through the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP).
What equipment is needed for CanSkate?
Helmet:
CSA approved helmets are mandatory for all Pre-CanSkaters
Skates:
We recommend “lace-up” skates as they provide the best support, allow proper movement, and accommodate an adjustable fit. The skate’s boot must be firm and must provide support to the foot and ankle.
Warm clothing:
Skaters should dress warmly and comfortably in layers to enjoy their skating experience. Snow pants or nylon pants over top layers of clothing are a good idea as they provide warmth and dryness during the session.
